Do These Bands Fux Live?

One of those shows where the openers, Juvenoia (top), and Evan Wright (middle) played so hard they almost exhausted all my energy before Seafoam Walls came on. Dont get me wrong, I still enjoyed the show, and overall 4.25/5, but truth is I only got so much transcendence in me for a night.

Alright, new year, first concert, we have to do this right, and this, my loyal readers, was done right. Technically I was catfished into this show and I'd never been to this venue (or part of Bushwick) so I was a little unsure of what to expect. The space was welcoming (though prepare to pay $15 for a Captain Morgan call drink), and the music started right at 7:30. The performances were outstanding, all in the realm of modern R&B (and a little beat poetry), with just good vibes all around. Only problem is I left a little early for some reason? 4/5 Great start to the year.

Unless something changes drastically it looks like this will be my only(!) concert for all of December. Well Pinkie gave a POWERHOUSE performance that reminded me why I dedicate so much time on the quest for the best underground concerts. How there were so few people out for such an exciting band will be one of the world's great mysteries, but man was it nice to be there for semi-private show. 3/3 since they only played 30 mins.

Well, not exactly how I planned to close the year, but I suppose a little break will renew my energy for 2023.

The rare double header concert. Booking it straight from Let's Eat Grandma, we slipped in just in time to see a few folks who have been around the block do what they love to do. The sincerity was miles high, and perhaps a good cool-down from the raucous performance we had been at just an hour earlier. 3.5/5

On the road for a concert in the great city of Seattle. Lets Eat Grandma activated the male psyche via a combination of youthful vigor and bombasstic music playing. Finished on an 11 minute encore and a 6/5 overall performance.

Finally, a concert at Baby's where you dont have to fight a veritable throng to get to the front. Oh Tonci was great too 4/5

Not quite a fall concert given the balmy outside weather, but it was a concert made to make you fall. Once again proving wearing shoes is only a state of mind, the lead had no problem trouncing around the stage for an hour long set that left plenty of time to pop out for a smoke or a drink and come back in. They said something about this being their final tour on their insta, but no mention was made, just that they were happy to hang out. 3.5 first half/4.5 second half.

A Halloween creeptacular. Heads off to the openers: ANDREW and FLOSSING who set the mood just right for Shamirs 4/5 performance (4.5/5 bassist). As Shamir said the world is ending, but its nice to be out dancing while we still can.

If someone asks you to see KG&TWL at Forest Hills stadium in exchange for a cat sit, you say yes. May have been in the nose bleeds, but man were there some "Lizard Brains" there easily ably to distinguish from one world music power ballad to the next, 3.5/5.

Ya, I go to the Mercury Lounge a lot. Sue me. Anyway, this is one of those weird reverse concerts where the band I thought was headlining (The Shacks) was opening and the band I thought was second opener (Brainstory), was second opener, but they were opening for some other band. This is why I always try and get to shows early cause you cant risk it. Anyway The Shacks played a chill 3.5 and Brainstory played a slightly less chill 4. If you stayed for Surprise Chef, I hope it was good.
