After some disappointing performance I decided to say F*I*K it, hop on the two-wheeler and get to the old standby for a guaranteed soiree. Cannot just rate these bands individually (though Lexie was a little too Frankie C adjacent for my likin') and instead I can rate this is a 4/5 clusterfun.

Things I aint doing: looking up the names of these 3 bands. Like they weren't bad or anything, but geez these sofarsounds are just a little too bougie for my tushie. In fact, they have rules about talking, leaving, & sitting throughout the performance. It is like they were trying to exclude people with ADD. Mercifully each group only played for 30 minutes then gave us a break cause my hiney was feeling shiny at the end of each set. 2.5/5 will not redo for a while.

Back to the great city South of Canada for a summertime show at Neumos. Weird ass venue where they had like 5 security checkpoints, including one when I was leaving (in case I was trying to smuggle David Bazan back home). And while the aforementioned Mr Bazan did play, it was only as part of Erik Walters (drums) and Pedro the Lion (lead). 3/5, had parents pick me up 15 minute early.

Alright, there is no way to sugarcoat this. The lineup indicated Odetta was going on last, yet when I arrived, just in time for the third act; I talked to someone who looked suspiciously like, and had the same name as, Okay Kaya, told me that not only had Odetta just performed, but I had also failed to witness one of the greatest shows she had ever seen. I begrudging stayed for the 3rd band, but it meant nothing. The Mighty Casey had struck out.

So this will mark the first of two consecutive concert disappointments centered around set times. I came to see both Okey Dokey AND Zella Day, but it turns out arriving a quarter to 9:00 when the concert started at 8:00 put me at the exact end of the Okey Dokey set. The 1 minute I saw was a .5/.5 performance. Fortunately, Zella Day played an amazing 4/4.5 cosmic fuzz set which I thoroughly enjoyed for 45 mins before peacing since I had a 27 min bike ride home.

After a light schedule in May, I have really tried to ramp it up and go out to see as many shows as possible. I continued with Porch Stomp, the bluegrass/acoustic festival held annually on the Midsommeresque* Governor's Island. With perfect weather, and a beautiful performance, my only regret was arriving at 4:30 and not earlier to enjoy more of the day. 3/3 for the small part I saw though. The weather turned a little after the final band shut down, and we were trapped on a storming island while waiting for the next Ferry off. All #ForTheLoveOfTheGame

One Half of the Mattson 2
Ridgewood

When I entered this venue for the first time ever and there were only 2 people jamming out on an acoustic and bass guitar to an audience of 8 people, I already knew I was gonna be in for a great night. Swift Taylor really brought the initial energy, before the second band played, leading to finally one of the two members of the Mattson 2 performing their decent solo work. Cant really rate this individually, so I will say 4/5. Convenient bike ride too.
