Do These Bands Fux Live?

Back in LA to start a short West Coast tour, so why not start at the incredible Lodge? Just a short 1 hour drive in traffic with 4.5/5 street tacos located just up the street, this venue has it all. Seeing Margaret Glaspy was just the icing on the cake. Cant say I staid for her final few though.

So this was a concert experience 4 years in the making when I missed these guys when I was at my peak in terms of fandom. In fact, I was surprised they were playing the smaller room given their rise in popularity. Unfortunately, they mostly played new stuff and only did a so-so performance of 1/4 songs I had come to see. While overall the show was lively and fun, I cannot give more than a 3.75/5.

And sometimes you gotta let the concert come to you. This was a 2.5/3 underground performance my Mr. Cryptic.

Sometimes you just gotta let someone invite you to the concert rather than the other way around. With little idea what to expect or why I was biking 3 miles through Brooklyn at 7:30 on a Wednesday, I went in with no expectations and left with nothing but a 4/5 experience.

After catching the Swift-Scorsese double-feature needed a bit of a cool down. What better way to do that then ship from Midtown to South Brooklyn to catch a show for the first time at the Pioneer Works seeing the beautiful avant-garde guitarist L'Rain. No way you were getting near the front with this boisterous Friday crowd so I had to enjoy from the back, but still saw a mesmerizing 4.25/5 75 minute performance.

First time in le Poisson Rouge and holy crap what a show. What started as an individual flautist evolved into a 15 piece full rock jazz ensemble with Kate NV on the sound and Kimbra leading it all for a glorious 1.5 hours. 5/5, this is what people think the Eras tour feels like.

When I saw a storm trooper decal on bar's window + the espresso martinis being made, I knew we were in for a night of hardcore-geekcore. This is what happens when you externalize self expression as a form of music (great bass too). We geeked out, we freaked out, (4.75/5) This is much better, real and raw than seeing Eras.

First, can I say how nice it is to go to the early show on a Thursday. Place is barely sizzling, tables galore, and you know you can buy your ticket at the door, straight cash. And when you take your best pic of the opener you gotta at least mention them. 4/5, would do this everyday if I could.
